Col de la Faucille (North side)
Col de la Faucille is a high mountain pass in the Ain department of the French Jura Mountains, with an elevation of 1,323 meters (4,341 feet). It connects the town of Gex in Ain to Les Rousses and Saint-Claude in the Jura department. The name ’Faucille’ comes from its sickle-shaped silhouette when viewed from the Geneva side. The pass offers stunning panoramic views including Mont Blanc, the Genevois region, and Lake Geneva. It is located near the highest peaks of the Jura massif, including Crêt de la Neige at 1,720 meters. For cyclists, Col de la Faucille is a notable climb: it has been featured multiple times in the Tour de France, 41 times between 1911 and 2004, showcasing its significance in professional cycling. The pass is also part of a ski resort area known as Mijoux - Col de la Faucille, popular for winter sports and offering summer hiking trails with breathtaking views of the Alps and Lake Geneva.
